What is a Radiologist?

A radiologist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specializes in diagnosing and treating disease through medical imaging — and, after more than a decade of training, in mastering a specific area of the body.

13+ Years of training
  • 4 years of college
  • 4 years of medical school
  • 5 years of radiology residency
  • 1–2 years of subspecialty fellowship

What we do

Radiologists are the physicians your doctor relies on when an image is needed. We interpret CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, mammography, and nuclear medicine studies — translating thousands of pixels into a clear answer about your diagnosis. Interventional radiologists go a step further, using image guidance to perform minimally invasive procedures that often replace traditional surgery.

Our subspecialty model means a fellowship-trained expert reads every study in their area of focus — a neuroradiologist for your brain MRI, a breast imager for your mammogram, a pediatric radiologist for your child’s exam — so you get the same caliber of interpretation patients receive at top academic medical centers, right here in the Gulf South.
